“And at the last from inner Egypt cameThe strange dark One to whom the fellahs bowed;Silent and lean and cryptically proud,And wrapped in fabrics red as sunset flame.Throngs pressed around, frantic for his commands,But leaving, could not tell what they had heard; While through the nations spread the awestruck wordThat wild beasts followed him and licked his hands.  Soon from the sea a noxious birth began;Forgotten lands with weedy spires of gold; The ground was cleft, and mad auroras rolledDown on the quaking citadels of man. Then, crushing what he chanced to mould in play,The idiot Chaos blew Earth’s dust away.” “Nyarlathotep”, by H. The gallowglasses were Celtic mercenaries from Ireland and Western Scotland who were employed as heavy elite infantry in Ireland from the mid XIII century to the late XVI century. Their name means in Gaelic “foreign warrior”, as they shared some ancestry with the Irish but also were descendants of earlier Norse settlers who had established in the Hebrides and Western Scotland. They were very present during this period in all sorts of feuds and conflicts between the different Irish clans, and their presence was highly valued on the battlefield, as they were considered more reliable than the local fighters. Most gallowglasses were well-equipped with bows, longswords and axes, and also would carry some armour.  Fighting alongside them were the kerns, whose role was of light infantry and were typically raised from the local Irish population. The relevance of these peculiar warriors waned after the increasing presence of firearms on the battlefields and the defeat of the Irish by the English at the Battle of Kinsale in 1601. One of the most evocative and archetypical images of the American Civil War is the classic Confederate infantry soldier. Almost from the beginning, the Confederacy had serious trouble equipping its soldiers properly and coherently, and they tried to compensate for their lack of equipment and supplies with great tenacity and courage. On the other hand, officers were a different story. Normally, their uniforms were privately purchased and tailored, so following the regulations was a bit easier. This officer carries a regulation kepi and greatcoat over his uniform, along with riding boots and other elements, like the binoculars’ case and sabre, that were typical of his rank. The Czech theologian Jan Hus was an early church reformer and a precursor to Protestantism. His teachings inspired a huge movement in the XV century Bohemia, the Hussites, which initially had a religious nature but evolved into a full-fledged political faction. The two main events that marked that evolution were the execution of Jan Hus in 1415, accused of heresy, and the death of the Catholic King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia a few years later in 1419. There was already unrest among the Hussites when Wenceslas’ successor, his brother Sigismund of Luxembourg, received permission from the Pope to launch a crusade against them. The Hussites were mainly an army composed of militia, and many of them were equipped with farming tools, but they made a really imaginative use of their scarce resources to fight against the Bohemian troops. In the early engagements of the battles of the Hussite Wars, they developed their famous defensive technique for fighting in wagons, combining that protection with the power of the earlier firearms that were gradually appearing on the European battlefields of the era. In the Battle of Sudoměř, they managed to repulse a decisive surprise assault by the enemy’s heavy cavalry using that technique. Our miniature represents one of the many Central European mercenaries that fought during that troubled period, and can be painted to represent a member of any of the factions of the conflict. After the conquest of Gaul by Julius Cesar, the Romans were confronted with a difficult problem: the long and hard-to-defend frontier that the Empire now had with the territories of the Germanic tribes. These warlike people raided the Gaulish lands incessantly, causing vast disruption. In 16 BC, they even defeated a Roman army under the command of Marco Lolio, capturing the eagle of Legio V. All these incidents caused a reaction by the Romans. The legions crossed the Rhine and reached the Elbe River, fighting the tribes they found at their pace in some of the bloodiest combats they had carried out until that moment. On 9 AD, the Roman governor of Germania, Publius Quintilius Varo, decided it was about time to subdue the Germanic tribes and crossed the Rhine with several legions, establishing their camps on the territory of an allied tribe, the Cherusci. News of a local revolt arrived, and Varo decided to move there with three legio8ns. What he didn’t know was that Arminius, the Cherusci leader, had made a secret alliance with the other Germanic tribes of the area. The Roman Army was ambushed, taking advantage of the difficult forest terrain that made their tactics and formations useless. Around 20.000 people were slaughtered in what history came to know as the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. Our figure depicts one of those fierce tribal warriors, armed with lance, sword and shield, possibly waiting along with the rest of the Germanic force in the forest for the right moment to attack the Roman columns. The Vikings were a Northern European people of Germanic origin who lived in the area that is today Scandinavia. Raiders and traders, with their highly developed seafaring skills, were able to navigate all the seas and major rivers of Western Europe, greatly influencing the destinies of several nations, such as Great Britain and France, during what became known as “The Viking Era”. Some historians consider that this era started in 793, with the raid on the Lindisfarne Abbey in Northumberland. The event sent shockwaves through Christendom and is recorded in many contemporary chronicles that offer a really dark testimony: “Never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race … The heathens poured out the blood of saints around the altar, and trampled on the bodies of saints in the temple of God, like dung in the streets.” wrote Alcuin of York about the event. He was a scholar in the court of Emperor Charlemagne Our miniature portrays a Viking chief after the raid, getting ready to inspect some loot. “There are two ways to make this trip, asleep or dead”. The words that the fat customs officer repeated with a tired ring to the people queuing to get onboard the ark ship were meant as a dark joke and a reminder of the grim possibilities that awaited anyone foolish enough to make a mistake around the premises. The more evident became the reality that Earth was dying, the more serious they got about the “Colonisation Pathways” that would bring humanity to the stars. Resources were allocated, ships were built, and technical issues were overcome. One of the most difficult challenges was the huge supervision and maintenance requirements that the ships would have during the long trip. Most of the physical work could be easily done by robots, but the overseeing required human capacity, especially after the “Great AI Flop” of the mid-XXI century, and the trips could span a few hundred years in some cases. It was easy to put a few thousand settlers or crew in stasis for a few centuries, but it was impossible to wake them up at demand to respond to the ship’s requirements. It was then that they came up with the necroservers. Through a series of surgical procedures and implants, they managed to bring individuals to a point of near-death that converted them into mere computers, devoid of personality but with slight traces of conscience that allowed them to perform some basic routine decision-making. They started using the victims of terrible accidents, people who were not meant to be still alive anyway. But, as the moral boundaries relaxed and the situation on the planet worsened, the need for this new asset surged, and they had to get creative. The “Extinction Dilemma”, as the news outlets called it, had generated a huge worldwide inmate population, due to protests, scarcity and skyrocketing crime. Nobody would miss these people, and they would redeem their crimes by serving a higher purpose. It took Rashid more than two hours to pass through all the security controls and finally board the U.S.S. Kim Kardashian, a huge ship that dwarfed the spaceport in which it was docked. These ships, named after great personalities of a distant past, were an overwhelming presence that could be seen from miles away and setting foot inside one of them finally, was some sort of defining moment. All his life would be left behind, on the other side of the gigantic hydraulic blast doors of the ship’s main entrance. “Move on to your assigned collection points and wait for the accommodation personnel”, said one of the ship’s reception officers before leaning over a reddish dim-lit screen that was being operated by another crewman. Rashid took a second glance, and then he saw it. The second crewman had no arms or legs. It was just a human silhouette hooked up to the ship’s consoles by multiple connectors. The red glow of the screen projected an eerie aura over the mummified skin of his head, with changing shapes dancing over the milky eyes as the sequence of commands iterated orderly on the screen. Humanity’s salvation required paying a high price. But some people would always pay even a bit more. Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting. The small island of Arwad, on the coast of Syria, was the last territory under Crusader control in the Holy Land. After the fall of Acre in 1291, the Kingdom of Jerusalem relocated to Cyprus, and Pope Clement V awarded the Templars the formal ownership of this island, trying to maintain at least a small foothold in the area. The island had a small port and a castle, and its garrison consisted of a bit more than a hundred knights with an additional detachment of archers and servants, under the command of Maréchal Barthélemy de Quincy. Since the siege of Acre, the Mamluks had started to take control of Syria, and they were not going to leave the strategic enclave in the hands of the Crusaders. They landed on the island with a highly superior force and laid siege to the fortification. After a lengthy fight, the Templars surrendered in exchange for a promise of safe passage, which was ultimately broken by the Mamluks. The bowmen and servants were executed, and the knights were sent to Cairo as captives. Our figure depicts a member of a militant order on the eve of the XIV century, and can be used to portray any similar subject of choice. One of the most notable qualities of “Dracula”, the acclaimed novel by Bram Stoker, is how most of its secondary characters have managed to remain relevant and even become cultural archetypes. Jonathan and Mina Harker, the crazed Renfield, Dr Seward, Lucy Westenra… all are very well known, but there is someone in particular who has left a permanent mark in popular culture and established a specific type of character in the Horror genre. We are talking about Dr Abraham Van Helsing, who set the tone for the misunderstood and somewhat crazy erudite who has embarked on a lifelong battle against the forces of darkness. Even some of the most obscure characters have left an impression, like the three mysterious vampire brides that dwell in the darker crypts of the castle, voluptuous and dangerous, whose origin never gets explained in the novel and find their demise at the hands of our favourite vampire killer. In this vignette, we want to portray that particular moment, with Van Helsing exploring the darkest corners of Dracula’s castle, trying to purge the evil of these creatures of the night from this world. The 5th New York Regiment, commonly known as Duryée’s Zouaves, was raised in Manhattan on April 1861 by Colonel Abram Duryée. As it was sometimes the trend in volunteer regiments, the uniform was inspired in the style of the colonial uniforms of the French Army, which was a prominent reference for the organization of many armies around the world on those days. The troopers of this regiment wore French Zoauves style uniforms in dark blue and red. They took part in many important battles, like the Second Battle of Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg or Chancellorsville. In the Battle of Gaines’ Mill, they played a key role in stopping the attack from the South Carolina Brigade. During all their service record, the regiment fought and behaved with distinction, and General McClellan said of them “The Fifth is the best disciplined and soldierly Regiment of the Army.” Our bust portrays a corporal of this regiment in campaign, with all the elements and equipment characteristic of this unit. The Franco-Prussian War, also known as the War of 1870, was a conflict between the Second French Empire and the German States of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia. It was a clash between the desires of Prussian-led unification of Germany on one side, and the fears of France about the consequences of the emergence of a new powerful expansionist empire right at its doorsteps. The German forces obtained a decisive victory over the French, as they had better training and leadership. Also, their equipment was more modern and they made better use in warfare of three relatively new assets available: railroads, telegraph and modern artillery. As the German Army was composed of troops from the different states of the Confederation, there was a wide variety of uniforms and insignia. Our figure, a classic Elite Miniaturas reference sculpted by Stefano Cannone, portrays a drummer from a Bavarian line infantry regiment, dressed in the particular cornflower blue uniform of the troops of this German State. The Continental Army was created after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War by a resolution of the Continental Congress on June 14th, 1775 that answered the desperate need of raising a full military force to fight against the British Army. In the beginning, the Thirteen Colonies didn’t have an army and had to rely on Militias. Also, the first continental army suffered hard from the lack of supplies and trained officers. In spite of this, they grew in confidence and efficiency as the conflict developed and became quite an effective army in the best tradition of European standards. Our bust depicts a generic Continental Infantryman that can be painted in a big array of combinations depending on the regiment of choice. For this version, we have chosen the 1st Pennsylvania regiment that sports the combination of blue uniforms with red facings that were assigned to these troops. culpture: Oriol QuinPainting: Javier MonteroMaterial: ResinNumber of parts of the kit: 5Scale: 75 mm Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting.

    – This is a new chance to get an iconic and long out-of-production figure from a fascinating period.– The sculpture perfectly captures the attitude of the proud Sioux warriors.– Our signature resin quality allows you to get the figure clean and ready in almost no time, so you may invest your precious free time in what really matters: painting and having fun. The Sioux is a Native-American people that originally was arranged in a confederation of tribes that later was known as The Great Sioux Nation. When the Europeans arrived on the Northern American continent and encountered them, they lived in the American plains of the actual United States of America and the south of Canada. The disruption that the appearance of the European settlers caused on all the existing cultures along the whole continent also impacted greatly these nomadic people that made a living essentially on the hunting of the bison. Bit by bit, their lands were taken from them and their territories were invaded by the expansion of a young nation that was immersed in a long self-defining process. The resultant conflict from this decline is commonly known as the Indian Wars and spanned a few centuries. It came to a climax during the mid-nineteen century and had its last climax during the Black Hills War that started in 1875 when the Gold Rush reached the remaining territories of the Sioux. The Federal Government tried to buy the land from them, but they refused and an army was sent to evict them under the orders of General Custer. The federal army was destroyed at the Battle of Little Big Horn. That would be the last triumph of the Sioux and the start of their final decline, which ended up with their confinement in reservations. The conflicts known as the “Swedish Crusades” are one of the many wars fought in Northern Europe during diverse moments of the Middle Ages, aimed at expanding the conversion of the remaining pagan people who lived on the fringes of the Christian kingdoms. After converting to Christianity, some Nordic powers like the Danes, the Norwegians and, especially, the Swedish, embarked on crusades against those neighbours who were still pagan, like the Finns and other Baltic cultures, mostly as a means to expand their influence and power. The Swedish directed three crusades to Finland over around 150 years, establishing an early colonisation of the area that even reached Western Karelia. The Order of the Knights of St. John, more commonly known as the Knights Hospitallers, traces its origin to the old Amalfitan hospital in Jerusalem. From their humble origins, they evolved to become one of the most important Christian military orders. After militarising the order in the first half of the XII century, they became very active elements for the Christian kingdoms during the Crusades until the siege of Acre in 1291. After the Muslim conquest of the Holy Land, they moved their base of operations, first to Cyprus, then to the Isle of Rhodes, which they ruled until they further relocated again to Malta. This 19 part miniature depicts one of these monk-warriors at the end of the XIII century and can be painted as a member of any other militant order or as a generic Knight of Outremer. It also comes with an alternate helmet.  Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting. Sculptor: Antonio Zapatero. Box Art: Fernando Ruiz. Number of parts: 14. Produced in high-quality resin. Unpainted — assembly required. Not recommended for children under 14.
