This workshop with Michał “Lan” Pisarski of Lan Studio focuses on two of the most important visual anchors in display miniature painting: the face and the metal.

Students will study how to create convincing light, volume, and focal points through controlled face painting and advanced non-metallic metal techniques. The class will cover light distribution in NMM, how to place reflections so metal reads clearly, and how to use color and texture to make metallic surfaces feel more believable and visually interesting.

The workshop will also explore how to combine brush and airbrush work effectively, using each tool where it is strongest rather than treating them as separate approaches. Students can expect a practical, technique-focused class centered on observation, light placement, surface character, and clean execution.

Topics include:

  • Face painting as a focal point

  • Light distribution in non-metallic metal

  • Color choices and texturing for painted metal

  • Combining brush and airbrush techniques

The workshop figure will be provided and is a lovely exclusive bust by Thorbjorn Barone.

You will also have the opportunity to get a preview tour of the Museum before it opens.
