Mortal Enemies
They were but a few feet from each other, they stood still; wary; alert, their weapons at the ready. They stared intensely, peering into each other`s souls, the hatred exuding from their bodies, the fire burning passionately in their eyes. They would only ever meet on the battlefield, faceless, nameless, anonymous; they are opponents; adversaries, rivals. They will fight to the death.
They are "Mortal Enemies".
Unfortunately, many wars have been fought throughout time, however the uniforms, armor, heraldry, and art of war remain to this day intriguing. The "Mortal Enemies" project will introduce modelers to the two sides of each war, we will carefully select interesting, colourful and exciting themes that will inspire modelers to paint, read and learn!
English Officer and Scottish Clansman - Battle of Culloden
The Battle of Culloden was the final confrontation of the Jacobite uprising of 1745. Raising an army consisting mostly of Scottish clansmen along with smaller units of Irish and Englishmen from the Manchester Regiment, Charles` efforts initially met with success and at one point began to threaten London. However, a series of events forced the army`s return to Scotland, where they were soon pursued by an army raised by the Duke of Cumberland.
The two forces eventually met at Culloden, on terrain that made the highland charge difficult and gave the larger and well-armed British forces the advantage. The battle lasted only an hour, with the Jacobites suffering a bloody defeat. Between 1,500 and 2,000 Jacobites were killed or wounded in the brief battle. In contrast, only about 300 government soldiers were killed or wounded.

Fear of the Dark is the ninth studio album by Iron Maiden that was released on 11 May 1992 and it was their third studio release to top the UK Albums Chart, and the last to feature Bruce Dickinson as the group's lead vocalist until his return in 1999. It was also the first album to be produced by bassist and band founder Steve Harris, and the last album to feature the work of producer Martin Birch, who retired after its release.
“Fear Of The Dark” also marks the first time in Maiden's career when the cover artwork is not by Derek Riggs. The 'new' Eddie was eventually supplied by Melvyn Grant. The band actually took the somewhat surprising step of inviting other artists as well as Eddie-originator Derek Riggs to come up with ideas for the “Fear Of The Dark” sleeve.
"Fear of the Dark (live)", according to Riggs shows Eddie as Steve Harris. The artwork was also used for the Raising Hell video.

Powerslave is the fifth studio album by Iron Maiden, released on 3 September 1984 through EMI Records in Europe and its sister label Capitol Records in North America. It was re-released by Sanctuary and Columbia Records in the United States in 2002.
The album's cover artwork, designed by Derek Riggs, is notable for its Ancient Egypt theme. That theme, taken from the title track, was carried over to the album's supporting tour, the World Slavery Tour. This began in Warsaw, Poland, on 9 August 1984, that is widely regarded as being the band's longest and most arduous tour to date, and led to the live album Live After Death.
The release contains a musical re-telling of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the lyrics of which include some lines from the poem. At 13 minutes and 45 seconds in length, this was Iron Maiden's longest song for over 30 years until it was surpassed by the 18-minute "Empire of the Clouds" from the 2015 album The Book of Souls.
Powerslave is notable as the band's first album to feature the same personnel as their previous studio release. This lineup would remain intact for two further studio releases. It is also their last album to date to feature an instrumental piece, and the only one until Senjutsu (2021) in which longtime member and guitarist Dave Murray does not have a songwriting credit.

"The Trooper" song by the Iron Maiden was released as the second single on 20 June 1983 from the band's fourth studio album, Piece of Mind (1983). It was one of only a few songs to get much radio airplay in the United States, thus peaking at No. 28 on the US Mainstream Rock charts. It also achieved success in the United Kingdom, peaking at No. 12 in the UK Singles Charts as well as gaining a much better reception than the band's previous single, "Flight of Icarus".
Written by bassist and founding member Steve Harris, the song is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War, and inspired by Lord Tennyson's 1854 poem of the same name. The track has been the subject of much praise since its release, with AllMusic describing it as "an all-time genre classic that boasts guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith's most memorable harmonized lead riff, plus that trademark galloping rhythm," while Mick Wall comments that it is the song "which most Maiden fans from those days still recall first when you mention the Piece of Mind album." Despite the popularity of the song, it was the single's B-Side, a cover of Jethro Tull's "Cross-Eyed Mary", which managed to gain a substantial amount of airplay on US radio, becoming one of the band's few tracks, along with previous single "Flight of Icarus", to do so.
It’s quite an atmospheric song as the opening in “The Trooper” is meant to try and recreate the galloping horses in the charge of the light brigade. The first verses show the soldier’s patriotism: He’s willing to die if he can take an enemy with him. “Run you through” regards various kinds of blades – swords, spears (the presumed weapon of a light cavalryman) and bayonets installed atop the rifles to stab approaching enemies. And as the trooper dies, he feels lonely on the ground and slowly fading to death. Despite this feeling of emptiness and being “forgotten,” he dies without regret or fear.
A regular fixture in the band’s concerts, vocalist Bruce Dickinson has always waved a Union Flag during live performances. And, more recently, has begun wearing an authentic red coat uniform which would have been worn during the battle on which the song was based.
Eddie sheds his tatty jeans-and-T-shirt combo for the first time, changing into a smart red cavalry uniform for arguably his most popular incarnation – the Trooper tattoo taking pride of place on Steve Harris’s forearm. There is something highly stirring about this image of bullish resilience, but Riggsy reckons its appeal is more simple: “I think this is popular because it has a lot of red and blue in it,” insists the artist. “The other covers don’t have much red. I resist using red just for the sake of it (can you put more blood in it Derek… whinge whinge).”

LUMINARD THE MELT MAJESTY Second miniature from the MELTED KINGDOM series. CONCEPT, SCULPTOR AND BOXART PAINTER - LUKAS ZABA. ALTERNATIVE BOXART - JAN SOUKUP (IG @jan_soukup_miniatures). SCALE - 65MM. TOTAL HEIGHT - 85mm. INSIDE EVERY BOX - 9 High Quality Resin parts, sticker and visit card. King Luminard, the weary ruler of candles, took great care to ensure his kingdom was never left in darkness. He carefully placed each flame so that it would burn long and provide light where it was needed most. When the people began to complain about the diminishing light, Luminard, instead of lighting more candles, used his wisdom. He positioned mirrors throughout the kingdom to reflect the light of the existing flames, ensuring that even with little, the kingdom remained bright. His greatest strength was his wisdom and careful judgment. King Luminard knew that more light didn’t always require more candles, but rather the wise use of what was already there. His people realized that wisdom lies not in accumulating resources, but in making the most of them. Sometimes, changing your perspective is enough to make even the smallest light brighten the entire world. This miniature is supplied unpainted and unassembled This is not a toy. Valeria has never cared for the company of humans; she always found people confusing and needlessly complicated. She prefers animals and beasts. She spends her life in the forests looking for new and fascinating creatures, taming the most feral of them, learning their ways and entering their minds until she becomes one with them. Now and then she visits a town out of necessity, but as soon as she can she returns to the wild. Wargs and wolves are her favourite company: caring for the pack, chasing prey through the night, and howling at the moon.Total height: 135mm. 10-piece kit. Produced in high-quality resin.
