Mortal Enemies
They were but a few feet from each other, they stood still; wary; alert, their weapons at the ready. They stared intensely, peering into each other`s souls, the hatred exuding from their bodies, the fire burning passionately in their eyes. They would only ever meet on the battlefield, faceless, nameless, anonymous; they are opponents; adversaries, rivals. They will fight to the death.
They are "Mortal Enemies".
Unfortunately, many wars have been fought throughout time, however the uniforms, armor, heraldry, and art of war remain to this day intriguing. The "Mortal Enemies" project will introduce modelers to the two sides of each war, we will carefully select interesting, colourful and exciting themes that will inspire modelers to paint, read and learn!
English Officer and Scottish Clansman - Battle of Culloden
The Battle of Culloden was the final confrontation of the Jacobite uprising of 1745. Raising an army consisting mostly of Scottish clansmen along with smaller units of Irish and Englishmen from the Manchester Regiment, Charles` efforts initially met with success and at one point began to threaten London. However, a series of events forced the army`s return to Scotland, where they were soon pursued by an army raised by the Duke of Cumberland.
The two forces eventually met at Culloden, on terrain that made the highland charge difficult and gave the larger and well-armed British forces the advantage. The battle lasted only an hour, with the Jacobites suffering a bloody defeat. Between 1,500 and 2,000 Jacobites were killed or wounded in the brief battle. In contrast, only about 300 government soldiers were killed or wounded.

French and Prussian Officer - Franco Prussian War
The Franco-Prussian lasted from July 19th 1870 to May 10th 1871 and was fought between the German states of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia and the Second French Empire of Napoleon III. Essentially the war started due to the ambitions of Prussia to unify Germany which resulted in fears within France about a shift of balance and power within Europe.
Amidst growing tensions and concerns on July 16th 1870, the French parliament voted to declare war on the German Kingdom of Prussia. Surprisingly the conflict began three days later with Germany invading northeastern France, with the French being caught unprepared. After a series of swift victories by German forces throughout France, Paris finally fell on January 28th 1871.
Further to winning the war Germany became a unified country and with the signing of the treaty of Frankfurt acquired the majority of Alsace and certain areas of Lorraine. With the balance of power shifting considerably in Europe and Otto von Bismarck demanding great authority within Europe the foundations for World War I were laid.

Armed with the legendary Fyreslayer axe Zangrom-Thaz and bearing the Master Rune of Krag Blackhammer, he has become a veritable demigod of battle.Gotrek makes a fearsome addition to Order armies. Basically, if you want a Hero who will kill everything in his path, you want Gotrek.Gotrek Gurnisson is a plastic kit supplied in 15 components. He comes with two options for bases – a 32mm round base for using him in your games, and a 40mm round base with scenic detailing depicting dead Skaven, scattered weapons, discarded shields, and splintered wood – perfect for a display model worthy of Golden Demon! You'll find a warscroll for Gotrek in the box, allowing you to use him in your games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
“And at the last from inner Egypt cameThe strange dark One to whom the fellahs bowed;Silent and lean and cryptically proud,And wrapped in fabrics red as sunset flame.Throngs pressed around, frantic for his commands,But leaving, could not tell what they had heard; While through the nations spread the awestruck wordThat wild beasts followed him and licked his hands.
Soon from the sea a noxious birth began;Forgotten lands with weedy spires of gold; The ground was cleft, and mad auroras rolledDown on the quaking citadels of man. Then, crushing what he chanced to mould in play,The idiot Chaos blew Earth’s dust away.”

The Czech theologian Jan Hus was an early church reformer and a precursor to Protestantism. His teachings inspired a huge movement in the XV century Bohemia, the Hussites, which initially had a religious nature but evolved into a full-fledged political faction.
The two main events that marked that evolution were the execution of Jan Hus in 1415, accused of heresy, and the death of the Catholic King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia a few years later in 1419. There was already unrest among the Hussites when Wenceslas’ successor, his brother Sigismund of Luxembourg, received permission from the Pope to launch a crusade against them.
The Hussites were mainly an army composed of militia, and many of them were equipped with farming tools, but they made a really imaginative use of their scarce resources to fight against the Bohemian troops. In the early engagements of the battles of the Hussite Wars, they developed their famous defensive technique for fighting in wagons, combining that protection with the power of the earlier firearms that were gradually appearing on the European battlefields of the era. In the Battle of Sudoměř, they managed to repulse a decisive surprise assault by the enemy’s heavy cavalry using that technique.
Our miniature represents one of the many Central European mercenaries that fought during that troubled period, and can be painted to represent a member of any of the factions of the conflict.
